KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID — One person was killed Saturday evening following a shooting near Stateline Speedway in unincorporated Kootenai County.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7:10 p.m. on May 9 to reports of a shooting on North Beck Road near the speedway, located near Post Falls.
Law enforcement officers from both the sheriff’s office and the Post Falls Police Department were already in the area because of the large crowd attending the Lantern Festival at the speedway.
Authorities said officers quickly responded and detained a suspect who was attempting to leave the area in a vehicle. Deputies also located an adult male at the scene who had died.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving individuals leaving the event and a suspect allegedly attempting to drive through the crowded area.
Investigators said the suspect remains in custody and is being interviewed. Officials stated there is no known ongoing threat to the public at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. North Beck Road was closed Friday night while investigators processed the scene.
