JOHNSON, WA – A home in Johnson was damaged by fire on Wednesday morning.
Whitman County Fire District 12 Volunteers in Johnson and out of Pullman were called to the fire around 7:30. The house fire was right across the street from the D12 Johnson Fire Station.
The occupants were able to safely escape the home as smoke was rising from underneath the floor. Volunteers were on scene quickly and discovered a small fire under the home burning the floor joists. Crews quickly extinguished the flames. No one was hurt. The home sustained interior smoke damage.
D12 Chief Lester Erwin believes it was likely an electrical short under the home that sparked the small fire. He also noted how quickly his volunteers responded to save the home. District 14 Volunteers out of Colton/Uniontown were automatically called in to assist.
