PIERCE, ID— Construction is underway on the Quartz Creek Bridge along State Highway 11 near Pierce as crews work to restore the bridge’s structural capacity and extend its service life.
According to the Idaho Transportation Department, years of water runoff have deteriorated concrete girders beneath the bridge and caused reinforcing steel to corrode. Repairs will include replacing the damaged girders and installing a new bridge barrier.
Knife River Corporation is completing the project in phases, allowing one lane of traffic to remain open throughout construction. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone, and motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during active construction. A 14-foot width restriction will remain in place for the duration of the project.
Work is scheduled Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with no construction planned on Sundays. The project is expected to be completed in late October.
The Idaho Transportation Department encourages drivers to slow down in the work zone and check Idaho 511 for current traffic conditions before traveling.
