St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Lockdown Lifted After Threat Investigation

LEWISTON, ID — A precautionary lockdown at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center was lifted Monday evening after law enforcement determined there was no ongoing threat to the hospital or the public.

According to the Lewiston Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:26 p.m. on June 1 after receiving a report of a suicidal individual believed to be in the vicinity of the hospital. The individual was reportedly in telephone contact with a hospital staff member at the time.

Police said officers searched the hospital and surrounding area but were initially unable to locate the person. During the encounter, the individual allegedly made statements threatening self-harm as well as harm to family members and hospital medical personnel. As a precaution, hospital staff initiated a lockdown of the facility.

A deputy from the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office remained at the hospital while Lewiston officers continued their investigation. Authorities later identified the individual as a Clarkston resident and requested assistance from the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, which conducted a welfare check at the person’s residence.

The individual was located at home with family members and later made contact with the investigating officer. Police said there is no ongoing threat to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center or the public.

The investigation remains active, and criminal charges are pending.
