Idaho Fish and Game Closes or Modifies Four Chinook Salmon Fisheries

LEWISTON, ID – Idaho Fish and Game has announced the closure or modification of four Chinook salmon fisheries beginning at the end of fishing hours on Wednesday, June 3, after harvest objectives were reached in several river sections.

According to the agency, the entire Clearwater River system will close to Chinook salmon fishing, including the Mainstem, Middle Fork, North Fork and South Fork Clearwater rivers. The closure does not include the Lochsa River summer Chinook fishery, which remains open.

In addition, Chinook fishing will close on the Snake River below Hells Canyon Dam from Dug Bar upstream to Hells Canyon Dam. The lower Salmon River will also close from the Upper Twin Bridge upstream to the mouth of Short’s Creek.

Fish and Game is also reducing fishing opportunities on the Little Salmon River, limiting Chinook salmon fishing to Saturdays and Sundays only.

The agency said the changes are necessary because sport fishing harvest objectives have been met in those areas. Anglers are encouraged to review current regulations and remaining open Chinook fisheries before planning fishing trips.

Additional information on open Chinook salmon seasons and regulations is available through Idaho Fish and Game.
