ASOTIN, WA — The Fourth of July brought a busy holiday for firefighters in Asotin, who responded to a garage fire, treated several fireworks-related injuries and extinguished small fires during a day marked by dangerous fire weather conditions.

According to the Asotin Firefighter’s Association, crews spent the day preparing for the increased call volume that often comes with Independence Day celebrations. The holiday fell on a red flag day, with low humidity, hot temperatures and wind creating heightened fire danger across the region.

During the afternoon, firefighters were dispatched to a garage fire in town. The association said the fire was not caused by fireworks. Fire crews from around the Lewis-Clark Valley assisted with the response, and firefighters were able to quickly knock down the blaze.

Later in the evening, firefighters also treated several people for injuries related to fireworks mishandling or malfunctioning fireworks and responded to small fires to keep them from spreading.

The Asotin Firefighter’s Association reminded residents that conditions remain hot and dry heading into the rest of the holiday weekend and urged the public to continue using caution with fireworks and outdoor activities.
