Lewiston Firefighters Contain Residential Fire on 18th Street, Cause Under Investigation

 

LEWISTON, ID — A residential structure fire caused an estimated $250,000 in property and contents damage Tuesday at a home in the 3700 block of 18th Street, according to the Lewiston Fire Department.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded to the fire at 3734 18th St. with assistance from Wheatland Fire Protection District, Asotin County Fire District No. 1, and the Clarkston Fire Department. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke, high heat, low visibility, and active flames coming from the single-story home. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack, entered the residence, and quickly brought the fire under control.

The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom at the rear of the residence. Firefighters also searched the home to ensure all occupants had safely evacuated before remaining on scene for approximately 90 minutes to complete salvage and overhaul operations aimed at fully extinguishing the fire and limiting additional damage.

The Lewiston Fire Department estimates the loss to the home and its contents at approximately $250,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.
