Kendrick and St. Maries Schools Receive $5,000, Join Orofino in Competition for $1 Million

KENDRICK, ID— Kendrick and St. Maries high schools have each received $5,000 through a national competition that could provide one school with up to $1 million for improvements to its football facilities.

The schools were randomly selected as $5K Fridays winners through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program. They join Orofino Junior Senior High School, which received $5,000 through the program earlier this month.

Kendrick High School Business Manager Kendall McWilliams applied for the program in hopes of securing funding for upgrades to the school’s athletic field and facilities. The improvements would support academic and athletic opportunities for current and future students.

St. Maries High School Athletic Director Kimberle Keneally applied in hopes of upgrading the school’s aging athletic facilities. Potential improvements include new lighting and scoreboard equipment, safer bleachers and updated weight room equipment.

Kendrick, St. Maries and Orofino remain eligible for the larger awards, including the $1 million grand prize. A total of 14 Idaho schools have received $5,000 each through the weekly drawings, bringing the statewide total to $70,000.

The program will select 40 finalists to receive $25,000 each. Four division winners will receive $250,000, and one school will receive $1 million toward a football field transformation.

Finalists are scheduled to be announced Oct. 8, followed by public voting through Oct. 25. The grand-prize winner will be announced Nov. 12.

Schools in communities with fewer than 150,000 residents may apply through Friday, Sept. 18, at FridayNight5GLights.com.
