Utah Man Arrested After Allegedly Ingesting Drugs in View of Deputies Near Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE, ID – Idaho County deputies arrested a Utah man Friday afternoon after allegedly observing him ingest controlled substances during a welfare check near Grangeville.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling near Highway 95 around milepost 238, just south of Grangeville, at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Jan. 9 when they noticed a vehicle parked in a pullout. Deputies stopped to check on the occupants to determine whether assistance was needed.

As deputies approached the vehicle, they reportedly observed the driver ingesting what appeared to be controlled substances in plain view.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Khari Haynes of Salt Lake City, Utah, was taken into custody. Haynes was arrested on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony concealment of evidence and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

Haynes was booked into the Idaho County Jail.  No further details were released by the sheriff’s office.
