BONNEVILLE COUNTY, ID — Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks that occurred early Monday morning on southbound Interstate 15 near Idaho Falls.
According to ISP, the crash happened at approximately 5:49 a.m. on January 19 near milepost 125. A 55-year-old man from Alberta, Canada, was driving a 2024 white Volvo semi-truck southbound when it rear-ended a white Kenworth semi-truck driven by a 25-year-old man from Monteview, Idaho.
The collision caused both vehicles to come to rest in the roadway. ISP said the Volvo blocked both southbound lanes and its cab caught fire. Despite the fire, both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not injured.
Southbound I-15 was closed for about four hours while emergency crews responded and traffic was diverted at exit 128. The left lane has since reopened, but the right lane remained closed as of Monday morning while crews and tow operators continued clearing the scene.
ISP was assisted at the scene by the Idaho Transportation Department, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho Falls Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
