CORVALLIS, OR – After another defensively dominant weekend of conference action, No. 13 LC State Women’s Basketball was voted the Cascade Conference Under Armour Team of the Week. The Warriors defeated (RV) College of Idaho and No. 17 Eastern Oregon at home and are tied at the top of the CCC standings with a 10-2 conference record.
LC State defeated C of I 61-44 on Friday with stifling defense. The Yotes were held to a 36.7% field goal mark and didn’t have a player score in double digits. The Warriors forced 21 turnovers for 18 points. Sitara Byrd led the contest with 17 points and Darian Herring notched a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Warriors avenged their loss earlier in the season with a 68-59 win over No. 17 Eastern Oregon on Saturday. LC State used an 18-point run in the fourth quarter and another strong defensive showing to split the season series with the Mounties. The Warriors held a normally sharp-shooting EOU team to just 33.8% from the field and 21.6% from 3-point range. Payton Hymas led LC with 17 points and Herring added 13 points with six blocks. The Warriors tied the program record for free throws without a miss with a 13-for-13 performance.
LC State shot 45.9% from the field over the weekend and held opponents to 35.0%. The Warriors were solid from 3-point range at 42.9% with 12 made and held opponents to 22.6% from beyond the arc.
