Genesee students to be recognized in ITD ‘Name a Snowplow’ contest

LEWISTON, ID — The Idaho Transportation Department will visit two North Central Idaho schools later this month to celebrate local winners of its “Name a Snowplow” contest, including students at Genesee Community School.

Classrooms across Idaho were invited to submit snowplow name ideas last fall, with ITD employees selecting two winning names from each region of the state. The chosen names will be displayed on snowplow blades, and the named plows will visit the winning schools. Students whose names were selected will also receive stickers recognizing their contribution.

ITD said the contest is intended to support winter driving safety education while engaging students and communities in the work performed by snowplow operators each winter.

In North Central Idaho, a celebration is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, at Genesee Community School in Genesee at 11 a.m., where students selected the winning plow name “Blizzard Basher.” Another event will take place Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Salmon River High School in Riggins at 10 a.m., where the winning plow name is “Frosty.”

Each school visit is expected to last less than an hour and will include an opportunity for students to see the named snowplow and meet ITD operators.
