UPDATE 1/26/26 4:32 p.m.: The Idaho Department of Correction says David Johnson has been located and is now in police custody.

LEWISTON, ID — The Idaho Department of Correction is searching for a man incarcerated at Idaho Correctional Institution Orofino who walked away from a community job site in Lewiston on Monday morning.

According to IDOC, David R. Johnson, 42, IDOC #73748, was last seen around 7:30 a.m. near Thain Road. Johnson is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 182 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.

IDOC said Johnson has a prior conviction for attempted grand theft in Nez Perce County. His sentence was scheduled to be satisfied on April 14, 2026.
