COEUR D’ALENE, ID— A Pinehurst man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after authorities discovered firearms, ammunition, and drug-related items at his residence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho.

Michael William Luma, 48, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of firearms. Court records state that in November 2023, law enforcement received multiple reports of gunshots coming from Luma’s Pinehurst residence over several nights. Luma is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction for aggravated assault.

After obtaining a search warrant, investigators searched the residence and found a large drill press, a 3D printer, multiple “ghost gun” components, thousands of rounds of ammunition, large-capacity magazines, and 16 firearms, including several machine guns and silencers. Authorities also reported that when Luma was contacted at his home, he was in possession of a loaded handgun magazine, 11 fentanyl pills, approximately half a gram of methamphetamine, and a methamphetamine pipe.

In addition to the prison sentence, Chief U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford ordered Luma to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration. He will remain prohibited from possessing firearms.

The case was investigated by the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Johnson. Federal officials said the case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide effort aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through coordinated law enforcement and community-based strategies.
