Man Arrested by Lewiston Police After Alleged Unlawful Entry, Struggle With Police

LEWISTON, ID – A 52-year-old man was arrested and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail following a reported unlawful entry and struggle with police at a residence on Airway Avenue, according to court documents.

Lewiston police were dispatched around 4:05 p.m. Friday to a report of an unwanted person at a home in the 1800 block of Airway Avenue. The reporting party told officers a man knocked on her door looking for his wife and was told she did not live there. The woman told police the man then forced his way into the home through the kitchen door.

According to the affidavit, the reporting party remained outside the residence and did not see the man leave. She also told officers there were firearms inside the home and she did not know whether the man had accessed them. She said she wished to pursue charges for unlawful entry.

Officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Barry L. Dammon, through an open bedroom window at the back of the residence. Police reported observing the man inside the home and said he appeared to be rummaging through items in the bedroom. Officers ordered him to exit the residence, but he refused and moved further inside, the affidavit states.

Police entered the residence using a garage code provided by the reporting party. According to court documents, Dammon was found hiding behind furniture and was informed he was under arrest. Officers reported Dammon resisted arrest by refusing commands and physically resisting efforts to take him into custody.

The affidavit states officers took Dammon to the ground and used physical control techniques to restrain him. Additional officers assisted before handcuffs were applied and secured.

During the incident, police said a piece of furniture inside the residence was damaged. The reporting party estimated the damage at approximately $100.

Dammon was transported to the Nez Perce County Jail. While en route, police reported he unbuckled himself and kicked the interior of the patrol vehicle. A supervisor responded, and leg restraints were applied before transport continued.

Dammon was cited and booked on charges of unlawful entry, malicious injury to property, and resisting or obstructing an officer. He is expected to make his initial court appearance on Monday afternoon.
