CLARKSTON, WA – An outbuilding was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon in the Clarkston Heights area, according to Asotin County Fire District #1.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3:15 p.m. to a reported structure fire in the 2400 block of 19th Street. When crews arrived, they found an outbuilding fully involved, with heavy smoke and flames visible.
A man who had been working on the structure told responders that his dog was trapped inside. An Asotin County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to assist in rescuing the dog, but heavy smoke and heat prevented them from locating it.
The Lewiston Fire Department also responded to the scene under a valley-wide auto aid agreement.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within about 15 minutes. The outbuilding was a total loss. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire may have been an electric heater.
