MARION COUNTY, OR — Oregon State Police say a K-9-assisted traffic stop along Interstate 5 in Marion County led to the seizure of large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.

According to OSP, a trooper stopped a vehicle traveling northbound near milepost 243 on Friday, Jan. 23, around 2 p.m. for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper observed inconsistencies related to the vehicle’s ownership and developed suspicion of possible drug activity.

A drug-detection canine was requested and alerted to the exterior of the vehicle. A subsequent search reportedly uncovered approximately 26 pounds of methamphetamine and 18 pounds of cocaine inside a duffel bag.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody. Due to the quantity of drugs seized, the driver and the narcotics were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Further inquiries are being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland.
