SPOKANE, WA — A phone video showing the abduction and assault of a teenage boy led to the arrest of five juvenile suspects, according to the City of Spokane Police Department.
Police said they were contacted on Jan. 24 about a disturbing video depicting an assault of an initially unidentified victim. Investigators later identified the victim as a male juvenile. The video shows the teen restrained in a chair while being assaulted and threatened with firearms. Based on the evidence, detectives believe the incident occurred on or before Jan. 22.
The investigation led officers to an apartment in north Spokane, where police believe the crime was preplanned and that the victim was lured to the location. Five suspects, all minors between the ages of 15 and 17, were taken into custody.
Three of the juveniles had their cases remanded to Spokane County Superior Court, while two will remain in Juvenile Superior Court. Reported charges include first-degree kidnapping with a firearm enhancement, second-degree assault, and robbery.
Spokane police said multiple units assisted in the investigation, which led to the rapid identification of both the victim and the suspects.
