Amazon Files Notice for over 2,000 Job Cuts in Washington State

SEATTLE, WA – The Washington State Employment Security Department has received notice that Amazon plans to eliminate about 2,200 jobs across multiple western Washington counties later this year.

According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings submitted to the state, Amazon expects to begin layoffs on April 28, 2026. The filings indicate 2,198 workers will be affected across various locations in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties through permanent layoffs.

In a separate filing, the company also reported an additional 401 workers will be affected by the permanent closure of certain facilities in Washington State.

The WARN notices provide advance notification to state agencies and workers when large layoffs or closures are planned, allowing time for affected employees to prepare and seek employment assistance.

The job cuts come amid a broader round of workforce reductions announced by Amazon. On Jan. 28, 2026, the company said it would lay off approximately 16,000 corporate employees globally as part of an effort to reduce organizational layers and bureaucracy.

That announcement followed an additional 14,000 job cuts announced in October 2025, bringing the company’s total recent layoffs to about 30,000 positions worldwide.

Amazon has said the reductions are tied to increased adoption of artificial intelligence, a shift in focus toward infrastructure, and adjustments following rapid hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has indicated the global cuts primarily target corporate roles and do not affect operations staff.
