RIGGINS, ID — Firefighters with Riggins City Fire Department responded Sunday evening to a structure fire involving one of two living spaces located behind the Youth Dynamics building in Riggins.

According to the department, crews arrived to find the interior of the unit fully involved, with heavy fire and flames visible from windows and the doorway. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

While the contents of one living unit were a total loss, responders were able to save the structure itself, the main Youth Dynamics building, and the other connected living space.

One person was injured in the fire and transported to the hospital. An on-duty deputy with the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office was first on scene and pulled the victim from the residence through heavy smoke. The deputy also suffered smoke inhalation but was treated and released shortly afterward.

Additional assistance was provided by Salmon River Rural Fire Department, along with crews from the Riggins Ambulance and Salmon River Ambulance District, who handled patient care and transport.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials said the coordinated response helped limit damage and protect nearby structures.
