Coeur d’Alene Tribe opens teen shelter and warming shelter in Plummer

PLUMMER, ID — The Coeur d’Alene Tribe, through Marimn Health, has opened a new teen shelter and an overnight warming shelter in Plummer aimed at serving community members facing housing instability.

The teen shelter serves youth ages 12 to 17, while the warming shelter provides overnight accommodations for adults during evening and overnight hours. Tribal officials say the shelters are designed to allow individuals to remain close to their home communities, support systems, and cultural connections.

According to the Tribe, the warming shelter is located at 760 D Street and operates seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The facility serves adults 18 and older and offers overnight shelter, meals, basic necessities, and access to supportive staff and resources. Capacity is limited to eight participants at a time, and drugs or substances are not permitted on site.

The teen shelter focuses on youth experiencing housing instability and encourages participants to remain connected to school and the Tribe’s youth advocacy services while staying at the facility.

Shelter Manager and Tribal member Josie Lozeau said the availability of local shelter services can help prevent youth from being placed outside their community.

Tribal Chairman Chief Allan said the shelters reflect the Tribe’s responsibility to provide safety and support to community members in need.

Information about the warming shelter is available at 208-686-5607. Information about the teen shelter can be obtained by calling 208-686-5610.

For additional questions about either shelter, Marimn Health officials recommend contacting shelter staff, Josie Lozeau: jlozeau@marimnhealth.org.
