LAS VEGAS, NV – The Lewis-Clark State College trap and skeet club secured its first podium finish in the ACUI/SCTP Clay Targets 2026 Spring West Coast Conference Championships.

Oliver Severs, who is in his final year of an engineering technology associate degree with a civil engineering emphasis, took second place at the competition held Jan. 16-18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Severs set the team’s record-high score in trap singles and became the first Warrior shooter to win a medal in a major competition. After shooting 99/100 and securing a three-way tie for first place, Severs survived the first- and second-round shoot-off and ultimately took home second place in a sudden-death round after hitting his previous 117 shots in a row.

Severs and eight other qualifying LC State students next head to the ACUI Clay Targets 2026 Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

“This will be Ollie’s second trip down there, and he’s just been pretty dialed in,” said Ken Wareham, club advisor and LC State education professor. “I’m expecting him to shoot at least a 97, hopefully a 99 or 100 and get into the shoot-off (for the trap singles competition).”

The LC State team took fifth place in the West Coast Conference competition, which had a total of 82 competitors. The team had three players rank in the top 20 overall: Severs ranked eighth, Alex Powers 18th, and Tucker Stevens 20th.

The 2026 Collegiate Clay Target Championships will take place March 15-21 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio.
