Pullman Posts One of State’s Steepest Retail Sales Declines in 3rd Quarter of 2025

PULLMAN, WA – Pullman’s economy slowed dramatically during the 3rd quarter of last year according to new numbers from the Washington Department of Revenue.

The state agency has released detailed retail sales numbers based on sales tax revenue for the 3rd quarter of 2025.  The City of Pullman saw the 2nd largest drop in Washington as sales declined over 8% compared to 2024.  Pullman’s economic activity dropped by over 14 million dollars year to year to just over 188 million dollars during the 3rd quarter of 2025.  That drove Whitman County’s economy to dip just over 6%.

Pullman has experienced several business closures in recent years including building supply and the movie theater complex.

Only nearby Columbia County, the second smallest in Washington, saw a larger economic decline by percentage during the 3rd quarter of last year.

Taxable retail sales in Washington statewide increase nearly 4% during the quarter compared to the year before.
