Corban Takes Back-and-Forth Battle Against LC State Women’s Basketball

LEWISTON, ID – No. 12 LC State Women’s Basketball dropped a back-and-forth contest with (RV) Corban (Ore.) on Friday in the P1FCU Activity Center. The LC State Warriors had strong first and third quarters, but the Corban Warriors shut LC down in the second and fourth to edge the host team 70-64.

Kendall Wallace led the contest with 20 points on six 3-pointers and Sitara Byrd added 17 with nine rebounds.

“Disappointed for our team tonight, but we had some really great individual performances,” coach Caelyn Orlandi said. “Kendall Wallace was fantastic and shot the ball incredibly well. Sitara Byrd was phenomenal and plays with tremendous heart. Quick turnaround, and we have to learn from this and be better tomorrow.”

The loss moves the LC State record to 20-7 on the season and 14-5 in Cascade Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The LC Warriors opened the contest with back-to-back 3-pointers by Payton Hymas and Wallace before Byrd added one of her own for a 9-3 lead. Byrd, Wallace and Darian Herring combined for a 9-2 run and held a 25-16 advantage after 10 minutes.

Corban turned the tables and outscored LC State 24-8 in the second frame to take a 40-33 lead by the end of the first half.

LC State answered with a 22-10 third quarter. Wallace sparked a nine-point run with a triple before Byrd scored the next six points to tie the game 42-42. Herring and Hymas had the LC Warriors in front 48-45, five straight points from Wallace pushed the lead to 53-47, and a last-second basket by Camden Barger had LC State in front 55-50 with 10 minutes to play.

Corban shut down LC State in the final frame with a 20-9 scoring difference. Barger scored twice, but a 3-pointer by Wallace at 3:01 was the final basket for LC State in the contest.

STAT RECAP

Wallace led the contest with 20 points and went 6-for-9 from 3-point range. Byrd added 17 points with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Herring tallied eight points, seven boards, four assists, three blocks and three steals.

LC State shot 41.5% from the floor while Corban shot 41.8%. Corban went to the free throw line for 18 shots and made 13, while LC State made just one trip and went 1-for-2.
