OTHELLO, WA – One person is dead following a crash involving a pedestrian early this morning in southeast Washington.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened around 6:18 a.m. on U.S. Route 395 near milepost 51, about four miles south of Connell.
Troopers say 46-year-old Tony Hicks of Everett had been in a vehicle traveling southbound on the highway. He exited his vehicle and ran into the northbound lanes. Investigators say an oncoming vehicle then struck him.
Hicks died at the scene. Authorities say his family has been notified.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 65-year-old man from Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He was injured and transported to Lourdes Medical Center for treatment.
Troopers say the driver was wearing a seatbelt and no charges have been filed. The cause of the crash is listed as a pedestrian in the roadway.
