WINONA LAKE, ID – LC State Women’s Tennis, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, pulled off its second straight upset on Friday with a 6-1 victory over (RV) Grace (Ind.). The Warriors took down No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday before a win over the Lancers, a team receiving more votes than LC State in the national poll.
The Warriors took an early lead with a win in doubles action. Rylie Gettmann and Lulu Monnayoo took the top spot 6-3 and Gwyn Heim and Carisa Liebenberg blanked their opponents 6-0 in No. 3 doubles.
Senior Naiara Montero had the most dominant singles victory for LC State with a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles. Heim and Liebenberg each dropped only four games in their matches as Heim earned a 6-3, 6-1 win in the fourth slot and Liebenberg won 6-4, 6-0 in No. 5 singles.
Ana Govea battled through a tight first set before a dominant second. She took the No. 6 singles contest 7-5, 6-1.
With the match clinched, Rayana Shah won her shortened No. 2 contest 3-6, 6-2, 10-5.
