CLARKSTON, WA — A woman was arrested Saturday following a reported disturbance that led to allegations of residential burglary and fourth-degree assault, according to court documents.
Brook C. Mitchell, 31, was taken into custody on March 22 after officers with the Clarkston Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the 300 block of 14th Street. The call was initially reported as a citizen dispute.
According to the statement of probable cause, the reporting party told police a woman had entered a trailer that did not belong to her and was yelling at another individual. The caller also reported the woman had allegedly struck her multiple times and had been seen leaving the trailer holding a hatchet.
A second individual reported that someone had broken into her trailer and was inside holding the door shut, according to the report.
Deputies later located a vehicle believed to be associated with the incident in the 1300 block of 15th Street. Mitchell was contacted and detained.
Witnesses told law enforcement they observed Mitchell enter the trailer and use a hatchet to force entry. One witness reported yelling for Mitchell to leave the trailer.
According to the affidavit, a woman who entered the trailer to remove Mitchell reported that Mitchell refused to leave and pushed her backward during the confrontation. The woman indicated she wished to pursue charges.
Mitchell told officers she believed she had permission to enter the trailer and said she was attempting to retrieve property. She acknowledged pushing the woman during the incident.
Court documents state a hatchet was later located in Mitchell’s vehicle. Officers noted the tool did not match the description provided by witnesses.
Investigators later contacted the individual Mitchell claimed had given her permission to enter the trailer. That individual told law enforcement no such permission had been given at the time.
Mitchell was arrested and booked into the Asotin County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and fourth-degree assault.
