OLYMPIA, WA — The deadline to remove studded tires in Washington is March 31.
Studded tires are legal in Washington from Nov. 1 through March 31. Drivers who continue using them past the deadline can face a fine of about $137. The rule applies to all vehicles, including those traveling from out of state.
State transportation officials say studded tires can damage roadways and recommend switching to approved traction tires or carrying chains for mountain travel.
