Asotin County Institutes Burn Ban as Weather Heats Up

ASOTIN COUNTY – As temperatures continue to increase and the weather conditions become drier, the fire danger also increases. Accordingly, Asotin County Fire Marshal Karst Riggers has instituted a burn ban throughout Asotin County. All fires and open burning in the unincorporated areas of Asotin County are prohibited until conditions improve and the ban is lifted.
Notable exceptions include:

  1. Campfires will be permitted within designated fire pits at Chief Timothy Park (island only) unless a Washington Statewide Burn Ban is enacted.
  2. Throughout the unincorporated areas of Asotin County, approved propane fire rings, and approved propane and charcoal barbeques are allowed.

Any person who violates any provisions of the ordinance can be subject to a civil penalty. The penalty for the first violation of this Ordinance shall be $200.00, and the first $100.00 of this penalty shall not be suspended or deferred. Fines increase depending on the number of incidents and may also include costs of response, costs incurred for fire suppression, testing of materials, or investigation of the property owner and/or any responsible parties involved.
