(Pullman, WA) Last week, the first layer of asphalt paving was added to Main Street in Pullman. Also known as a “base layer,” the new roadway surface was added between Grand Avenue and Pine Street.

When an asphalt roadway is thick, it’s placed in layers to maximize compaction, strength and longevity. Work that occurs between the base and final layer of paving involves a careful process of adjusting all of the gas, water, sewer, and stormwater valve cans and lids.
