SPOKANE VALLEY, WA — A man who intervened during a violent assault in Spokane Valley helped stop a suspect from fleeing and contributed to the suspect’s arrest, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

On the morning of May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a report of a man pointing a gun at another individual in a vehicle near North Conklin Road and East Sprague Avenue. Witnesses also reported hearing a gunshot.

When deputies arrived, they located and detained the armed male without incident. However, they determined he was a Good Samaritan who had intervened after witnessing a man—later identified as 36-year-old William C. Morris—violently assaulting an adult female.

The Good Samaritan, who was with his wife and daughter, told authorities he confronted Morris to stop the assault and informed him that police had been called. Morris reportedly fled to a black Kia Soul, later confirmed to be stolen from Seattle. When Morris attempted to drive away, the Good Samaritan blocked the vehicle and, fearing for his safety as the suspect drove toward him, fired one round at the vehicle’s tire.

Morris fled the scene, but Liberty Lake Police Officers later found the unoccupied Kia near Sprague and Barker. Officers also detained a man matching Morris’s description walking nearby. The female assault victim was located west of Conklin on Sprague Avenue and did not require hospitalization.

According to investigators, the victim had accepted a ride from Morris before an argument escalated into a physical assault. Deputies confirmed Morris had traveled from Seattle in the stolen vehicle.

Morris was booked into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and fourth-degree assault. He is also being held on a warrant out of King County for possession of a stolen vehicle.

The Good Samaritan and his family cooperated with deputies and were not charged.
