LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Independent School District is celebrating leadership achievements and a new addition to its administrative team this week.
Jennifer Gomez, principal of Orchard Elementary School, has been named Idaho’s 2025 National Distinguished Principal. The honor, awarded by the Idaho Association of School Administrators (IASA) and the Idaho Association of Elementary School Principals (IAESP), recognizes Gomez’s exemplary leadership and dedication to fostering a culture of academic excellence and community engagement.
Since taking the helm at Orchard Elementary in 2016, Gomez has led the school through notable growth, both academically and culturally. Under her leadership, the school recently earned the prestigious Model PLC School designation, reflecting its commitment to collaborative professional learning and continuous improvement.
“Mrs. Gomez’s recognition as Idaho’s National Distinguished Principal is a testament to her outstanding leadership and devotion to our students and staff,” said Superintendent Lance Hansen. “She is a model of educational excellence in our district and beyond.”
In addition to celebrating Gomez’s achievements, the district also announced the appointment of Jolyn Hobson as the new principal of Whitman Elementary School. Hobson, a Lewiston High School graduate, brings over a decade of educational experience to her new role. Most recently serving as Assistant Principal at Lewiston High School since 2020, she has been recognized for her dedication to student achievement and school improvement.
Hobson will officially begin her new role on August 4, 2025. Her previous experience includes teaching at Heights Elementary in the Clarkston School District and completing her administrative internship, where she gained valuable leadership skills.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Hobson to Whitman Elementary,” said Incoming Superintendent Tim Sperber. “Her strong ties to our community and her passion for student success make her an excellent fit. We are excited to see the positive impact she will have on the students, staff, and families at Whitman.”
These announcements underscore the district’s commitment to fostering strong leadership that supports student success and community engagement.
