Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office to Participate in Statewide Seat Belt Mobilization

LEWISTON, ID – The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office announced it will participate in a statewide seat belt enforcement effort running from May 18 through June 1, 2025. The effort is part of a partnership with the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety and other law enforcement agencies across the state.

During this period, deputies will focus on enforcing seat belt laws and issuing citations to drivers and passengers who are not properly restrained. The campaign is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” initiative, which works with law enforcement officers nationwide.

Officials note the timing of the mobilization coincides with Memorial Day weekend, historically recognized as the start of the summer travel period and referred to as the beginning of the “100 deadliest days” on America’s roads. The Sheriff’s Office is aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of not wearing seat belts, especially during this high-risk travel season.

Lt. Jason Lee with the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the campaign’s goal of saving lives through seat belt use.
