USACE Approves Discharge Permit for Stibnite Gold Project Construction

BOISE, ID – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Walla Walla District has approved a Clean Water Act permit allowing Perpetua Resources Idaho Inc. to discharge dredged or fill material into waters of the United States during the construction phase of the proposed Stibnite Gold Project.

The permit, issued after a multi-year environmental review, authorizes certain construction activities but does not approve or authorize mining itself. According to USACE, the decision followed an extensive evaluation of environmental impacts, including potential effects on streams and wetlands. The agency also consulted with federal and state agencies as well as Tribal governments throughout the review process.

“We arrived at our decision after an extensive, multi-year review of the proposed project, including thorough evaluation of the environmental impact studies, and its effects to waters of the United States,” said Lt. Col. Kathryn Werback, Walla Walla District commander.

As part of the permit, Perpetua Resources must meet special conditions, including a requirement that no construction-related discharges occur until the U.S. Forest Service—the lead agency for the overall project—approves the company’s plan of operations.

USACE emphasized that its regulatory mission seeks to protect national water resources while allowing for responsible development, aiming to balance environmental protection with infrastructure needs.

The Stibnite Gold Project, located in central Idaho, remains subject to further federal oversight before mining operations can begin.
