LAPWAI, ID – A man was arrested Tuesday evening in connection with a fatal shooting in Lapwai, according to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:57 p.m. on May 20, deputies from the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office and officers from Nez Perce Tribal Police responded to a citizen dispute in the 600 block of Ash Avenue. Upon arrival, they located a deceased male with a gunshot wound.

Victor Gray, 53, was present at the scene and detained as a person of interest. After investigators interviewed witnesses and collected evidence, Gray was arrested for first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center.

The victim’s name has not yet been released pending family notification.

The investigation is ongoing. The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is receiving assistance from the Nez Perce Tribal Police, Idaho State Police, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Lewiston Police Department. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
