PULLMAN – The Palouse Conservation District is inviting residents to engage with the natural environment through two family-friendly events aimed at fostering interest in local biodiversity and conservation.
On Saturday, May 31, from 8 to 10 a.m., the “Bike & Bird” event will take place starting at the Chipman Trailhead in Pullman. Hosted in partnership with the Palouse Audubon Society and Pine Creek Conservation District, participants will take part in a leisurely bike ride along the trail, stopping to observe birds and evaluate avian use of habitat restoration areas along Paradise Creek. The event welcomes birders of all experience levels. Registration is available at palousecd.org/post/bike-bird-05-31-25.

The following weekend, on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, the district will host “Critters in the River: A Macroinvertebrate Exploration” at the Pullman Community Garden at Koppel Farm. Participants of all ages are invited to enter the South Fork of the Palouse River to search for aquatic macroinvertebrates and learn about their role in the ecosystem. Waders in youth and adult sizes will be available for loan, and attendees are advised to wear rubber boots or water shoes and bring weather-appropriate gear and a water bottle. Registration can be found at palousecd.org/post/critters-in-the-river-06-07-25.
These events are part of the Palouse Conservation District’s mission to promote voluntary conservation through educational and hands-on experiences. For more information, visit www.palousecd.org or call 509-332-4101.
