Armed Citizen Kills Teen Suspect After Downtown Seattle Shooting

SEATTLE, WA – Seattle police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Tuesday night in Downtown Seattle.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on May 28, patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire near 1st Avenue and Union Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers administered medical aid until they were relieved by the Seattle Fire Department.

According to police, the incident began with a disturbance near the intersection. During the altercation, a suspect allegedly shot two individuals. A private citizen, a 57-year-old man who is licensed to carry a firearm, intervened and shot the suspect.

All three individuals—the two victims and the suspect—were transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Despite life-saving efforts, the suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The armed citizen remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He was transported to Seattle Police Headquarters, where detectives interviewed him.

Police cordoned off the area, and the Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Units responded to process the scene. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting remains ongoing.
