IRVING, TX — The Michaels Companies, Inc. announced Thursday it has acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of JOANN, a move that will expand Michaels’ offerings in fabric, sewing, and yarn categories and further its efforts to become North America’s leading creative destination.
The acquisition includes the integration of popular JOANN brands such as Big Twist®, which will now be developed and offered under the Michaels portfolio. As part of the transition, Michaels plans to roll out over 600 new products, spanning sewing machines, fabrics, yarns, and specialty tools.

Customer search data reflects this increased interest, with searches for “fabric” on Michaels.com up 77% and “sewing” up 39% over the past year. To meet demand, Michaels is expanding its fabric selection in more than 680 stores, with another 280 store expansions planned in 2025. The company currently offers over 10,000 fabric options online.

- New Brother® and SINGER® sewing machines
- 50+ new needle crafting kits from DMC® and Loops & Threads®
- Expanded offerings from Clover, FISKARS®, Coats & Clark™, and VELCRO®
- Introduction of Oliso® Smart Irons
- Addition of Pellon® interfacing and batting options
In the yarn category, Michaels will increase its offerings by 25% this year, including new releases from Loops & Threads, Red Heart®, Bernat®, and Lion Brand®. Michaels also plans to launch over a dozen new Amigurumi kits for the holiday season and bring JOANN’s Big Twist lines to shelves later in the year.
