AHSAHKA, ID – An 18-year-old Lewiston resident died Saturday evening after being struck by a falling boulder while camping near Northfork Drive in Ahsahka.

According to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to the scene around 9:35 p.m. on June 7. Agencies involved included the Clearwater County Ambulance Service, Orofino Fire Department, and Nez Perce Tribal Police.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel determined that Sheldon Medford had been pinned beneath a large boulder and was declared deceased at the scene.

Medford had been camping in the area at the time of the incident. His next of kin have been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
