North Idaho Deputies Respond to Crash That Injured Young Bicyclist

HAYDEN, ID – A 13-year-old bicyclist sustained multiple injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Hayden on Sunday afternoon, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Orchard Avenue and Ramsey Road at approximately 2:45 p.m. on June 9. The child was hit while crossing the intersection and suffered suspected broken bones and a possible head injury.

Emergency medical personnel responded alongside deputies and provided immediate treatment. The child, who was alert at the scene, was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover fully.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigation Unit closed the intersection for several hours to document the scene and gather evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.

As the school year comes to a close, the Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to remain vigilant with road safety. Officials are urging children to wear helmets and follow safe riding practices, whether on a bike, scooter, or skateboard. Drivers are also advised to stay alert and reduce speed near neighborhoods and intersections.

“It only takes a moment of distraction to change a life,” the release stated.

Authorities hope the incident serves as a timely reminder to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for all community members.
