SPOKANE, WA – Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Detectives are investigating the discovery of a deceased person found in the Spokane River near Upriver Dam early Wednesday morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report around 6:50 a.m. of a possible body in the water. Major Crime Detectives and members of the Spokane County Forensic Unit responded to the scene and recovered the remains.

Authorities said the body appeared to have been in the water for an extended period. The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will work to confirm the individual’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.

The case remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released. The name of the deceased will be made public once a positive identification is confirmed and next of kin have been notified.
