PORTLAND,OR – The Forest Service will offer free access to most day-use sites across national forests and grasslands in Oregon and Washington on Wednesday, June 19, in celebration of the Juneteenth holiday.
The fee waiver applies to sites such as trailheads, picnic areas, and visitor centers across the Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Region, which includes 16 national forests, one national scenic area, a national grassland, and two national volcanic monuments. Standard fees will still apply for overnight camping, cabin rentals, and special permits.
By waiving day-use fees, the agency hopes to encourage the public to explore public lands, connect with nature, and enjoy outdoor activities that support physical and mental well-being. Visitors are reminded to follow Leave No Trace principles to help preserve these spaces for future generations.
Additional no-fee days remain on the calendar for 2025, including National Public Lands Day and Veterans Day.
