According to Asotin Country Fire District #1, the fire was burning in Juniper bushes, trees and other foliage and tall grass. Firefighters were able to contain the fire from spreading within a few minutes, but remained on scene for about 2 hours mopping up hotspots in thick bushes and vines.

The cause of the fire was a resident grinding metal close to tall dry grass.
