Pullman Aims to Reopen Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge by End of August

PULLMAN, WA  – City officials say efforts are underway to restore the Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge to its original location following its displacement during high water in February.

Public Works Director Sean Wells announced that the city has secured most of the six required permits, including approvals from the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Department of Ecology, and internal clearances related to SEPA, shoreline, and floodplain regulations.

The project will follow a three-phase approach. City maintenance crews will begin by closing the plaza and placing large armoring rocks under the former bridge location to stabilize the bank. A contractor will then move the bridge back into place and reset it on its foundation. Crews will return to finish additional armoring work around the structure.

Each phase may span several days and is dependent on contractor availability and scheduling. The city anticipates the bridge will reopen to pedestrians by the end of August.
