High fire danger expected Wednesday afternoon and evening

ASOTIN COUNTY, WA – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of southeastern Washington, including Asotin County, due to the forecast of warm temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity.

The warning remains in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, affecting Fire Weather Zones 705, 706, 707, and 709 — which include areas such as the Lower Palouse and Snake River region.

According to the NWS, dry and windy conditions will develop Wednesday afternoon and are expected to continue into the early evening. West winds between 15 to 25 miles per hour are anticipated, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop to between 17 and 24 percent.

These factors create an elevated risk for rapid fire spread, particularly in areas with dry grasses or existing wildfires. Residents and land users are advised to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and use extreme caution with equipment that could generate sparks.
