Off-Duty Central Washington Police Officer Arrested for DUI After Collision

KENNEWICK, WA – An off-duty Kennewick Police Department officer was arrested for suspected DUI following a vehicle collision late Wednesday night.

According to a department statement, officers responded to the 1000 block of North Montana Street around 9:48 p.m. on June 19 for a report of a crash involving a parked vehicle. The driver was identified as Fernando Ramos, an off-duty KPD officer.

No injuries were reported, and the struck vehicle was unoccupied. Due to signs of impairment, Kennewick Police requested the Benton County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation. Ramos was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into the Benton County Jail.

The Kennewick Police Department stated that an internal investigation will follow.

Chief Guerrero emphasized the department’s commitment to accountability, noting that the agency will continue efforts to promote professionalism among officers both on and off duty. “Driving under the influence is a serious offense,” Guerrero stated. “Being a leader in the community doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off.”

Officer Ramos is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
