CUSICK, WA — A complex rescue operation unfolded Saturday afternoon in the Colville National Forest after a minor fell down a cliff face near Riverview Bible Camp, prompting a multi-agency response.
Pend Oreille County Fire District 2 reported that crews responded around 3 p.m. to a remote area accessible only on foot. Rescuers hiked through dense brush and steep terrain to reach three individuals—two minors and one adult. One of the minors had sustained significant injuries in the fall.
The coordinated rescue effort included personnel from Pend Oreille County Fire Districts 2, 4, and 5, Spokane Fire, Kalispel Tribal Fire, the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Riverview Bible Camp staff, Pend Oreille County Search and Rescue, Two Bear Air, and the U.S. Air Force.
A helicopter from Fairchild Air Force Base deployed a medic to the scene, who assisted in stabilizing and packaging the injured patient. The minor was then hoisted to safety and transported to a designated landing zone for further ground transport.
No additional injuries were reported, and the operation concluded with the successful extraction of the patient.
