Clarkson Rollover Crash Driver was More Than Twice the Legal Alcohol Limit, Deputies say

CLARKSTON, WA – There were no serious injuries following an alleged drunk driving crash on 16th Avenue in Clarkson at about 2 a.m. Monday morning.

According to court documents, deputies observed a vehicle spinning donuts around 1:55 a.m. near 15th and Fleshman Way. The vehicle continued toward Scenic Way, where it allegedly performed another donut before heading onto 16th Avenue.  A deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly failed to yield, eventually crashing and flipping the vehicle near the 1400 block.

Two occupants crawled from the overturned vehicle. One complied with commands, while the other, later identified as Zien J. Mason, reportedly tried to walk away. When the deputy attempted to detain him, Mason allegedly fled on foot.

Mason was later taken into custody by Deputy Gibson and transported to the Asotin County Jail, where he was processed for driving under the influence. According to the affidavit, Mason’s breath samples registered blood alcohol concentrations of .210 and .204—over twice the legal limit.

A passenger in the vehicle told deputies that Mason had been driving. Additional witnesses on scene confirmed Mason had left a residence approximately 15 minutes before the incident and was seen driving the vehicle.
