BOISE, ID – The trial of Bryan Kohberger, accused of the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, has been postponed by one week, according to a new court order issued on Thursday.
The amended timeline pushes jury selection back to August 4, 2025, a change from the original start date of August 1. Opening statements, previously set for August 11, are now slated to begin on August 18, a slight delay from the timeline that had been in place for months.
In a separate order, Judge Steven Hippler has also limited the defense’s ability to suggest that anyone other than Kohberger may be responsible for the murders. Kohberger, a former criminal justice Ph.D. student at Washington State University, faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary in connection with the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Zanna Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, who were found dead in an off-campus residence on November 13, 2022.
In his ruling, Judge Hippler ordered that the defense will not be allowed to present to the jury the theory that other individuals may have been involved in the deaths.
Kohberger’s defense team had identified four other people who they believe could have committed the crime.
