EASTERN IDAHO — A man drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming near Castle Creek Campground in the Boise National Forest, according to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:07 p.m. on June 28 after reports that an adult male had gone under the water and failed to resurface.
Responders from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Marine Division, Pine Featherville Ambulance, Elmore County Search and Rescue, and additional deputies arrived and began a search. The individual was located before the arrival of the Twin Falls County Dive Team.
The incident remains under investigation. Officials say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the drowning. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Sheriff Mike Hollinshead reminded the public to take safety precautions when recreating near water.
